Tip: Cooking Corn on the Cob

Share

My Dad taught me how to steam perfect corn on the cob in the microwave years ago. Corn is one of the few things that actually cooks better in the microwave. Never again will you have to wait for a giant pot of water to boil!

Here’s all you need to do: Keep the fresh corn in it’s husk. Wrap it in a piece of damp paper towel. Then wrap it again in a dry piece of paper towel, covering the entire husk. Place the wrapped ear of corn directly into the microwave and cook on high 5 minutes. (You can cook 2 ears at a time.) Carefully remove cooked corn from mico and remove paper towels and husks. Be careful as it will be steaming HOT! Enjoy your fresh cooked corn and your clean pots.

  1. In Canada they have an interesting way of buttering the corn. They get a big, tall pot/bucket and fill it with really hot water and add butter. The butter melts, but doesn’t mix with the water. (Remember your science lessons?)

You hold onto one end of the corn cob and dip it into the water… only the butter sticks to it! Magic!!! It’s a pain in the butt unless you have LOTS of corn to butter, which our HUGE family does… 🙂 But it’s fun for the kids because it’s different. 🙂
